Looking to capitalize on the market moves to NVMe, the Tyan TN70B-B7086 is a new NVMe storage solution focused on bringing higher performance storage to customers. Tyan’s new 2U platform provides a mix of NVMe and SATA/ SAS 12gbps ports. We are continuing to see additional platform releases for the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V3 and V4 processors and these new releases often focus on adding NVMe.
By moving front I/O and indicators to the rackmount ears, the Tyan TN70B-B7086 has a total of 12x front mounted drive slots. These are 3.5″ drive bays that can also utilize 2.5″ drives.
The Tyan design has capacity for four NVMe drives along with eight 12gbps SAS3 or SATA drives.
The design also has two 2.5″ fixed SATA drive bays for OS/ boot media.
Inside the chassis we can see a redundant hot swap fan array. We can also see that there are two vertical riser cars that should allow horizontal stacking of add-in cards. That configuration is possible as it allows for higher density add-in card designs. Tyan also employs an OCP mezzanine card for networking expansion. OCP card slots have become popular as many high-end networking solutions utilize that common form factor. SAS is provided via a proprietary mezzanine card.
It is good to see new NVMe platforms being launched from Tyan. Expanding the company’s portfolio is a good sign from the company that it remains committed to bringing out new NVMe technology to its customers.
