Here is a fun one from Computex 2023. AIMobile, an Inventec company, is powering many of the traffic cameras we see using NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX. There was actually a demo of the edge AI solution running on the show floor.
NVIDIA Jetson AI Powering Traffic Cameras in Taiwan with AIMobile
On the show floor, we saw this booth by AIMobile. It was showing a camera demo that was tracking various people and objects passing by at Computex. What we later learned, is that this is a solution being deployed in a number of places, such as in traffic cameras that we have passed by in Taiwan.
The main machine here, and this is just one of AIMobile’s products, is the AIMobile AIM Edge ncox. This small passively cooled machine is based around the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX which means it has 6-8 Arm cores as well as a NVIDIA Ampere-class GPU. Here we can see a camera 10/100 port as well as some other I/O.
On the other side we get a 1GbE port and HDMI port.
Overall, this is a small module. For some sense, while this is a box at the show, the camera behind the box was a view of integrating the AI processor into the camera itself.
For this demo, the company had a pole-mounted box with two of the AIM Edge ncox nodes. These pole-mounted boxes are always fun to see inside when we get the chance.
Below that was another cabinet.
Here the Jetson-based node was in a little drawer.
The large battery at the bottom of this rack, we were told, is enough to power the unit for several days. That was pretty interesting to hear, but it is perhaps the advantage of using the NVIDIA Jetson over higher-power options.
Final Words
AIMobile has many more product lines, and Inventec is a huge company. Still, it was fun to see the little demo the company created for the show floor since this is one that we likely also passed by on the roads to places like Jiufen to get Taro jelly balls.
Sometimes we take for granted how much technology we pass on a daily basis and how that technology is changing to become AI infused.
