With the Intel Xeon E-2100 re-launch, Tyan has a few new products coming out including two motherboard families and a new GPU server. Tyan already has a workstation motherboard out, the Tyan Tempest EX S5555 which was available from the original Xeon E-2100 workstation launch. With the new server focus, the Tyan Intel Xeon E-2100 catalog has mATX and ATX families with a number of different variants launching. Also, with these new motherboard families, there is a new 1U server that supports a double-width GPU available.
For those who are unfamiliar with Tyan’s product nomenclature. The company usually launches a family of products around a common platform. These individual products have different features present but are often built around the same base PCB or assembly.
Tyan Thunder CX GT24E-B5556 1U GPU Server
The Tyan Thunder CX GT24E-B5556 is an intriguing machine. It offers dual 10Gbase-T networking, a single Intel Xeon E-2100 CPU, four 3.5″ LFF drive bays and two internal 2.5″ SFF SSD bays. Perhaps the standout feature is the ability to run two PCIe 3.0 x8 single width GPUs or a single PCIe 3.0 x16 double-width GPU in the system.
Tyan has variants for passively cooled and actively cooled GPUs available which will help make this platform more versatile.
If you have been thinking about building a dedicated server hosting cluster with GPU support, this may be an intriguing option. We see heavy training tasks still being done on the company’s larger systems with four or more GPUs.
Tyan Tempest EX S5550 mATX Server/ Workstation Motherboards
In this segment, mATX is a popular form factor due to the compact platform the Intel Xeon E-2100 provides. The Tyan Tempest EX S5550 is a mATX server and workstation motherboard that is designed to fill both roles in a more compact form factor. Since many of the SKUs support an Intel iGPU, these can be popular form factors for remotely accessed workstations or even Quick Sync video transcoding nodes.

The Tyan Tempest CX S5552 ATX storage motherboard family pairs the Intel Xeon E-2100 with a unique feature on two of the SKUs: a 12G SAS3 8-port controller. This type of solution is popular because it generally provides plenty of processing power while also being a less expensive way to get a SAS3 controller. Onboard controllers tend to cost less than their PCIe counterparts due to how the electronics supply chain works.
