Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation Specifications
Below is a list of the specifications of the sample we reviewed.
The Intel Core i9-9980HK is a very high-end option hitting 5.0GHz in maximum turbo speed. One pays for that with a 45W TDP, but this is true 8-core desktop performance in a notebook. This is a bigger generational gap in this replacement cycle upgrade than two previous cycles combined.
Next year we expect to see an updated part, as is natural in the industry, but for now, this is a big deal. Beyond the fast CPU, Dell also packed a high-end GPU into the unit.
GPU-Z shows the primary stats of our NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000. The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 GPU clocks in at 945 MHz (can boost to 1,380 MHz). GDDR6 memory clocks in at 7001 MHz. Pixel Fillrates run at 45.4 GPixels/s, and Texture Fillrate comes in at 151.2 GTexel/s. This is a lot of performance waiting to be unleashed on our test suite.
Let us begin our basic performance tests of the Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation.
Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation Performance Related Benchmarks
Over time benchmark versions have changed a great deal and we have added additional benchmarks to our reviews. We have scripted our benchmarks and will add them all here. At this time we only have a few benchmarks that translate to previous reviews, and we will show those, newly updated benchmarks might just show one result at this time, we will add in results for newer reviews as we go.
CrystalDiskMark
CrystalDiskMark is a well-known benchmark to test your local storage.
Our test system came with a SK Hynix PC400 512GB NVMe SSD. This gave us excellent results overall. We would have liked to have seen better sequential write speeds, but the 4K writes are very good.
Let us move on and start our testing with CPU and GPU performance-related benchmarks.
Nice review! Are you guys going to review the Precision 5540?
Nice! I like to hear about these newer gen mobile Precision workstations.
My 7710 with m5000m and Intel E3-1535M v5 (purchased Feb 2016) is still going strong however. Replaced the palm rest and keyboard under warranty and looks brand new again (a key cap broke off as I was swapping memory and the touchpad surface coating pealed – the touchpad coating on replacment parts is much better).
