In the overall Dell Technologies umbrella, Dell has the top server line in the Dell EMC PowerEdge as well as the top software-defined infrastructure platform for enterprises in VMware. The Dell EMC VxRail and VxRack solutions solve a simple problem. Get customers up and running on a hyperconverged solution as fast as possible. Customers can essentially say “get me going” and be up and running quickly with leading servers and a VMware solution with the benefits of some automated workflows out of the box. At Dell Technologies World 2018 we have new VxRail and VxRack solutions based on the Dell EMC PowerEdge 14th Generation servers.
Dell EMC VxRail Solution
The story on the Dell EMC VxRail solution is simply more. You now get higher-end hardware with NVMe storage, twice as much memory capacity, twice the GPU acceleration of previous generations, and more network options taking advantage of emerging 25GbE and 100GbE standards. Here is the overview slide:
In the vein of making deployment easy for customers, an area of investment in the product is around security. The new Dell EMC VxRail also has Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) for secure infrastructure deployment. We also heard at the show that there is a new product manager in this ecosystem in charge of security features. For customers, the vision is to make this easy and secure to install with great performance.
Dell EMC VxRack SDDC Solution
While VxRail solves the problem of smaller installations, for larger HCI deployments, Dell EMC VxRack offers a turnkey solution to private or hybrid cloud infrastructure. Like the VxRail building blocks, the VxRack is based on 14th generation PowerEdge servers that offer up to 3TB of RAM per dual socket server and NVMe storage.
Part of this generation includes new enhancements for VDI with support for NVIDIA GPUs such as the Tesla P40.
On the software side, VxRack SDDC includes the latest VMware Cloud Foundation 2.3 with newly integrated cloud management and automation for on-premises IT-as-a-Service (IaaS) and more flexibility to scale with heterogeneous server support VMware Cloud Foundation includes solutions such as vSAN i The solution also has exclusive SDDC automation and serviceability extensions integrated with VMware Cloud Foundation extending the management experience and simplifying cloud-ready operations.
Final Words
Hyperconverged is where a lot of enterprise IT is going to be headed in the near future, especially deployed as a hybrid cloud with support for utilizing public cloud resources. Dell Technologies has leading servers and a complete software stack it bundles in VxRail and VxRack that make it easy for customers to get up and running with a software-defined data center quickly.
