A few weeks ago we took a look at the Using Crucial Pro DDR5-6000 32GB 2x 16GB DIMM kit. At some point, we agreed to look at Crucial’s newest kit as well. When it arrived, we realized what it was, the same kit with white instead of black heatspreader covers.

Taking a look at the package, we can see this is a 32GB kit with 2x 16GB DDR5-6000 UDIMMs.

One of the big features is the ability to support both Intel XMP as well as AMD EXPO profiles. As such, you can use this memory in either type of platform. Just to give you some sense of how similar these are to the ones we already looked at, here is the black version packaging.

Looking at the front, we get the Crucial by Micron branding.

On the back, we see that we have the Crucial DDR5 Pro branding.

We managed to put both just 2x 16GB as well as 4x 16GB for 32GB and 64GB respectively in the AMD testbed.

Just running our test suite of the OpenSSL, 7zip compression, c-ray, our Linux kernel compile benchmark, and our web server test, we saw very little difference between this and the black version so we would consider them of equal performance.

Overall, you do get some performance bumps with these, which is nice. At the same time, it is not huge.

Final Words

Only a few companies make DRAM chips and there are also many specialty vendors. Crucial is Micron’s direct-to-consumer brand. As such, for a lot of folks, Micron Crucial is a relatively safe choice from a well-known vendor. These DIMMs allow for memory overclocking using either Intel or AMD platforms, which can be useful for a handful of end users who play with a lot of hardware. For systems builders, there is a notable advantage. They can stock one type of RAM and then use it in either Intel or AMD platforms. Now, that memory can be in either black or white, so one can have all black, all white, or a mix of colors.

Perhaps the key lesson learned is that we need to remember to look if the new model is only a color change in the future.
