NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 Launched

NVIDIA is pushing the RTX 4000 Ada Lovelace series down its stack to the $299-499 segment. With the launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti we have two new cards and a third with the GeForce RTX 4060.

Here are the specs for the new cards. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is $100 over the 8GB version at $499 versus $399 but the specs out today say that they are otherwise identical. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 is only available in 8GB configurations.

Something that is interesting is that the power usage is fairly low with idle at 7W and video playback at 11-13W. These cards have both AV1 Encode and AV1 Decode onboard as well

In terms of a generational comparison, here is the three-generation comparison from NVIDIA bringing back the days before “T I” versus “Tie” when things were SUPER.

In terms of pricing and availability, the May 24 card will be the NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti 8GB. Those wanting the 16GB version will have to wait until July and pay $499 versus $399.

The NVIDIA RTX 4060 is $299 and will also be available in July.

Final Words

It is always great to see new consumer GPUs. For those that want to run AI models locally, having updated GPU hardware at a lower price point is usually excellent. The 16GB model may be a really interesting AI inference card. Beyond the AI applications, this is new generation GeForce hardware for gaming and also for creative professionals that cannot afford the higher-end GPUs. AV1 encode/ decode support is important to move the industry forward on higher-efficiency codecs.

We do not plan for a launch day NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB review at this point since the next few weeks are packed. Still, we will hopefully get to look at the 16GB Ti model and perhaps the non-Ti model this summer.
