For STH readers, just a quick heads-up. In September 2020 I did a short talk for the company’s NUGGET 2020 event. Despite Netreo focusing more on the monitoring and analytics portion of the stack rather than hardware, apparently, folks enjoyed that talk. As a result, I am doing another talk looking at some key hardware trends today.

Since I had a fairly short time to think about a topic, one activity was looking back on the talk I did at the NUGGET 2020 event. Specifically, a few key points that I presented for the next 0-18 months in September 2020. Here was that slide:

Looking back, I think that the 0-18 month predictions have largely come about. We will see new platforms for the PCIe Gen5/ DDR5 era, for the end-of-line platforms discussion but that has not happened yet (although I have a few more months!) We have certainly been talking about all of these trends on STH over the past year.

In the 2021 talk, we cover a few trends, including a bit on the chip shortage in the industry since we did not get into that last year.

None of these topics should seem out of place to STH readers as we cover them regularly.

Final Words

For those that do not know, Jasmin Young, Netreo’s CEO was my colleague doing consulting at PwC for years. She recently stopped by the new place with her husband and one of her sons and over pizza asked if I could do another talk. I of course obliged and recorded a little video for the user conference. If you want to see it today, you can see it here.

As another fun “nugget” of information, we should have a video go live today where we discuss a small book project I have been working on. It should be published this quarter and that is very exciting.
