There are two new AMD Embedded Radeon GPUs on the market. Both are based on the venerable Polaris architecture and are designed for digital signage and (casino) gaming. The AMD Embedded Radeon E9560 is the higher-end card with up to 130W peak power. For lower power applications, the AMD Embedded Radeon E9390 hits a 75W TDP.

Here is the quick overview slide on the AMD Embedded Radeon E9560:
The key differentiator here is its 8GB of GDDR5 memory along with its compute performance.

On the pre-briefing call, we asked why this is an actively cooled and full-height card unlike the similar power NVIDIA Tesla T4. STH was told that this is what the company’s embedded gaming customers wanted.
AMD Embedded Radeon E9560 and E9390 Comparison
Here is the comparison between the two cards:
The three-year availability is important. AMD says that as the industry transitions to GDDR6, the GDDR5 found on these cards will be harder to source. It is planning to support the cards for three years so that embedded customers can continue to order the cards. For example, if a casino slot machine vendor needs to run another set of machines two years from now, it will not have to change GPU designs.
In terms of performance, AMD is claiming 11% faster 3DMark performance over the previous generation.
A fun fact is that this 3DMark 11 comparison was done on an AMD embedded reference platform called the “Dibbler Embedded” platform.
Final Words
For a handful of STH readers, this will be very exciting news. Polaris has been around for a long time so an update that can be slotted into existing systems providing slightly more performance and another three years of availability can be important. For our mainstream readers, we know you are still awaiting the STH AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 Reviews. They are coming.
