At Computex 2019, QCT showed off a number of products. We had four that we wanted to feature. Two are 100GbE routers and two are edge compute devices. QCT had a number of other servers and networking gear on display as part of their traditional product lines and next-gen central office (NGCO) lines. As we are doing with other vendors, we are simply picking some of our highlights.
QCT QuantaMesh T7080 100GbE Routers
At first, when I saw photos of the QCT QuantaMesh T7080 series, I thought they were switches. Both are instead labeled as routers with Deep Buffer and Large Table. First, we have the QCT QuantaMesh T7080-IXAE which is the company’s 40x 100GbE offering.
Under the hood of the 1U QCT QuantaMesh T7080-IXAE, there is an Intel Xeon D-1527 CPU and a Broadcom jerico2 BCM88690 switch chip.
For those that need more, the QCT QuantaMesh T7080-IXA ups the port count to 80x 100GbE ports in a 2U chassis.
Sporting two Broadcom jerico2 BCM88690 chips, the QCT QuantaMesh T7080-IXA is rated at 200M pps processing and even includes an 8GB deep packet buffer using HBM.
QCT QuantaGrid D52Y-2U Edge Server
QCT is entering the edge compute market that service providers are looking at heavily for the 5G transition. The QCT QuantaGrid D52Y-2U is a 2U chassis with front I/O.
Inside there are dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors (2nd gen capable) but the key feature is with expansion. There are six PCIe expansion bays. These include two full height double-width slots. For those that want to add massive amounts of GPUs and/or storage in a short-depth chassis, this is a great option.
QCT uCPE and SD-WAN Box
QCT typically focuses on large servers. Now, the QCT uCPE and SD-WAN box is designed to be an edge device installed at customer locations.
The QCT uCPE and SD-WAN desktop box has an array of LAN ports and can be actively or passively cooled depending on the CPU option. In the Computex 2019 iteration, the box included Intel Atom C3000 “Denverton” 4 or 8 cores as the SoC and could be configured with a variety of wireless options.
We like that QCT is expanding its portfolio in the edge space with this design.
Final Words
QCT has been expanding its Computex portfolio over the years and evolving what it brings to the show. To see some of their previous Computex designs, you can see QCT at Computex 2016 (and here), Computex 2017, and Computex 2018.
