In Las Vegas today, at Autodesk University 2015, Lenovo unveiled several new products amid at the workstation market. Lenovo has a strong reputation for professional notebook and workstations as a result of purchasing IBM’s business years ago. Lenovo is expanding its existing offering range with updated components.
The first offering is the Lenovo ThinkPad P40 Yoga. The P40, a high performing mobile workstation offers first-class sketching abilities for digital artists and for engineers. This is great for professionals who need to sketch their designs and then have the processing power to render those in applications of choice.
The P40 is powered by the Wacom Active ES Technology which offers full 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity on a high-res 2560×1400 IPS display. For GPU power the P40 uses an NVIDIA Quadro M5000M GPU with 2GB VRAM. It also features Intel 6th Gen Core i7 CPU’s and up to 16 GB of RAM and 512GB SSD. It uses a hinge design more similar to the original Yoga and Yoga 2 rather than the newer Yoga 3 Pro and Yoga 900 watchband design.
Next up is the Lenovo ThinkPad P50 which offers a more affordable premium functionality in a lighter mobile workstation.
ThinkPad P50s include a 3K IPS display for crystal-clear images and Lenovo Power Bridge technology, which allows for up to 17 hours of battery life enabling users to keep their work going at all times. Made for professionals on the go, the P50s features the latest Intel Core processors and NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics. Lenovo’s thin and light full-function mobile workstation also will last as long as you can using Power Bridge Technology. The ThinkPad P50s is MIL-SPEC tested for maximum durability, is ISV certified, and features a 15.6″ 3K IPS display with optional touchscreen.
The newest addition to the Lenovo ThinkStation P Series, the ThinkStation P310, builds on the success of the Lenovo ThinkStation P300, offering an entry-level machine with the advanced technology of a high-end workstation.
Featuring the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v5 processors released recently and the latest NVIDIA GPU technology, the system also doubles the memory capacity of previous entry-level workstations, offering up to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM and support for FLEX drives with Samsung M.2 NVMe SSDs.
The Lenovo ThinkStation P300 comes in two different form factors, Tower and SFF, the SFF form factor can be laid on its side as an alternative orientation.
These look to be impressive machines, if you are at Autodesk University be sure to stop by the Lenovo booth and take a look at Lenovo’s new offerings. We should also have these in the lab soon for review so be sure to check back here for more information.
What are the odd this “workstation” will only have a dual core with soldered on RAM?
Lenovo has done this a bunch in recent hardware.
On the p40? pretty high it looks like a beefed up yoga 460 with the 940m flashed to a quadro.
On the p50s I’d be surprised if all the memory was soldered, more likely something similar to the t450s which has a 4gb module soldered and you can add X amount in the remaining sodimm slot.
